Discipleship Electives
Discipleship Elective classes are offered at various times during the week. They provide a great opportunity for you to share some area you have studied in depth with other interested people. Their limited time span means you can share your gifts without making a long-term commitment.
Everyone is on a life journey. Join other fellow travelers as we investigate the Christian spiritual journey. We will be hearing testimonies from fellow travelers, engaging in discussions and building relationships in a warm coffee house setting. We meet every Sunday, 10:45am-noon, in the Student Center.
Come and join us as we fellowship and study the account of the life of Christ as recorded for us by Luke. This wonderful account of our Lord will help us gain a deeper understanding of the life, the works, and the teachings of Christ. Our hope and prayer is that it will lead us to a closer walk with Jesus and give us clearer insight into His will for each of us. We warmly welcome married couples and singles - young and old - anyone with a desire to learn more about Jesus, and to follow Him more closely. The class meets 10:45am-noon in room 440, finishing the Luke study with the passion week. Taught by Leong Tan.
After Luke, the class moves to a ten-week study of the Psalms. This study will differ from the one Leong taught a few years ago, and begins the first week of March.
Paul Helwig teaches an in-depth class on the Sermon on the Mount. The class meets Sundays 6:30-8pm in room 3171. All are welcome. A preliminary version of Paul's writings on the subject can be seen on his page on the Valley Community website.
The people attending the class above are considering following that class with one covering the history of Israel and Judah. It would be a fast-paced class, requiring the reading of the texts be done at home, before class, by each student. It's about 330 pages, a medium-sized book. ...more
