Cultivation

Establishing believers in the Word of God and prayer for the purpose of growing in maturity in Christ.

Contact Pat Jensen.

Cultivation at Valley Church comes in many forms. There are weekly sermons, Sunday School classes, and small group Bible studies.

The following list provides an overview of ministries that are available at Valley Church. Many of these ministries provide opportunities for serving others, as well as opportunities for you to learn and grow.

SMALL GROUP MINISTRY

At last count we had over 200 people involved in 25 small groups throughout Valley Church. Are you interested in hosting a group in your home? Maybe you’ve led a group before and would like to help or would like to learn how to lead a group. Contact Dennis Low.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

There are many adult Sunday School classes to choose from both at 9:00 am and 10:45. Each class has opportunities to get to know other people as well as to serve. Consult the latest Sunday School class schedule for times and locations.

CHILDRENS MINISTRY

Help reach children for Christ by being a team member that places weekly Bible clubs in the public elementary schools after the school day. We need to form several teams of 5-8 persons per school to work in several schools beginning in the first quarter 2004. We will train you to be teachers, workers, and helpers. We can reach from 20 to 30 or more children per school. Contact Cheryl McDill.

KIDS ON A MISSION

Providing children and their families with opportunities to serve others in our community and our world. Here are some of the activities we’ll do – “Kids Care” – lunch bags with some necessities and “Jesus Loves You” cards to give to the homeless. “Prayer walk” – to visit Valley shut-ins. “Hearts for Jesus” – assemble lollipops and invitation to our Easter services in April. “Missionary Care Packages” – We will get together and pray for our missionary families and assemble care packages.

AWANA

Ever wonder what “Awana” stands for? Well, it means Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. And that’s the motto the drives this extremely dynamic, fun and eventful program that meets on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 pm during the school year. More than 300 kids participate in Awana each week at Valley Church. From Pre K to High School, the kids in this program are learning not only Scripture, but also how to act and live for Christ in a fallen world

Come join us in God’s work leading kids to Christ. No prep work necessary! We will train you! Who is an Awana leader? An Awana leader is a committed believer who wants to reach kids for Jesus Christ and train them to serve Him. What do they do? Help during Game Time (encourage good sportsmanship and respect for others), Handbook Time (listens to clubbers verses and signs off their handbooks) helps them to understand the Scriptures they are learning and encourages them to complete their books. Also help during Council Time (singing, gospel message and awards presented) keeping clubbers quiet. We also have leaders who help with crafts in the Pre K age group. If interested Contact Gail Jensen.

YOUTH MINISTRY

Lifeline Ministry (Junior High Students) Opportunities:

  • Volunteering in Lifeline is the perfect opportunity to impact the lives of junior highers! It involves building relationships with the kids through Sunday morning and Wednesday night group meetings, helping out with special events, and giving ideas and input at our monthly staff meetings.
  • We often need drivers for different events, and we would love your help! You are always welcome to stay for the entirety of the event if you wish.
  • If you are Internet-ly skilled, help out with the design and upkeep of the junior high portion of the Valley Church web site!
  • Pray for Lifeline! We always need prayer warriors!

Contact Pat Jensen.

VALLEY GOLDEN AGERS

We need someone to pickup Wheelchair Golden Agers and bring them to monthly luncheons. I have two people who live within three miles. If anyone would like to do this and return them home also we can offer them a free lunch. Contact the church office.

LIBRARY MINISTRY

If you’d like to serve in any of the following library ministry opportunities, please Contact Kurt Jones.

Sunday Mornings – These times are pretty well covered now, but adults who could substitute on occasion are welcome. Duties would include checking out and checking in books, helping people find what they need, reshelving books, and possibly opening up or closing down the library.

Wednesday Mornings – We can always use more helpers on our work morning; the behind-the-scenes work is endless. Helpers who would be happiest in this kind of work are those who have an eye for details; know their alphabet and decimal numbers; and enjoy filing, organizing, and reorganizing.

Media Lab – Valley Church has a Media Lab available for your use. Visit the library for more info.

Honor Exchange – Donate your old music CDs and cassettes and find some new music. Check the free giveaways also.

New ministry opportunities:

Summer Reading Program Coordinator. Need an adult who can take this on as a project from start to finish. Would include getting handouts prepared and copied, purchasing prizes, manning a table to get sign ups and later to receive completed reading lists from kids and award prizes. Commitment would run from June to August/September.

Accurate Typist to assist in typing catalog cards and/or book labels. Work could be done at the church library or at home. Typewriter could be provided.

CCN Seminar Video Library

Tapes of many of the CCN seminars are now available for loan to Valley Church members. CCN seminars are presented by experts in their fields, and provide training on topics of interest and relevance to Christians.

For more information on how to borrow these tapes, or to see a list of the topics currently available on tape, please visit the Valley Church CCN Library page.
