April 28, 2002 - Grow up!

Message by Glen Miller from Ephesians 3:14-21 in the series: Discovering Your Destiny! (The Majesty and Mystery of God's Will)

Glen's email of the week:

Dear friends,

Remember the story of Peter Pan?  It is about a boy who refused to grow up.  Wishing to escape the responsibilities of adulthood, Peter Pan was determined to stay young and carefree in "Never Never Land."  However, we don't live in "Never Never Land" or the "Sweet By And By" but rather in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation.  We are suppose to be shining as stars and that is impossible without growing up.  There is a huge difference between growing old and growing up.  One is automatic and requires little effort.  But the other is never simple or easy.  Growing up  in Christ requires genuine humility, personal discipline, patience, spiritual hunger, determination and etc.

One of the areas we should all be "growing up" in is our prayer life.  Do your prayers resemble Paul's prayer in Ephesians three?  "My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask Him to strengthen you by His Spirit - not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength - that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite Him in.  And I ask Him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you'll be able to take in with all Christians the extravagant dimensions of Christ's love.  Reach out and experience the breath! Test its length! Plumb its depths! Rise to the heights!  Live full lives, full in the fullness of God." Ephesians 3:14-19 (The Message)

Our glorious Father doesn't want us to live in some fantasy world.  He wants us to know and experience His intense, personal and eternal love.  I pray that this is and will continue to be a reality in you life.

Growing up into Him,
Glen
