Purpose - To instruct and remind Christians that there is hope in the midst of suffering.

Premise - Trials are sent from a loving sovereign God to teach you things about Him that you could never learn in any other way!
1. Who are we?
We are aliens and strangers! 1:1; 2:11
2. What do we face?
Suffering, trials, problems, troubles and testing! 1:6; 2:21; 4:12; 5:10
- Before my troubles - straying
"Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word." Ps, 119:67
- During my troubles - learning!
"It was good for me that I was afflicted so that I might learn your decrees." Ps. 119:71
- After my troubles - knowing!
"I know, O Lord, that your laws are righteous, and in faithfulness you have afflicted me." Ps. 119:75
3. What do we have?
It is something believers will obtain. Matthew 25:34
It is imperishable. Matthew 6:19-21
It is undefiled. Rev. 21:27
It will not fade away. 2 Cor. 3:6-11
It is reserved. Eph. 1:11
5. How do we respond?
Follow in the steps of Jesus!
No deceit
No retaliation
No threats
Entrust yourself
Take up the cross
