How do you know?

If what you believe is the truth?
If you are born again?
If your sins are forgiven?
If you have eternal life?
If you are pleasing to God?
If God loves you?
If you love God?
If Christianity is the only way?

1. The theme!

Fellowship with God and one another! 1:3

Are you in fellowship?

2. The purpose!

• That our/your joy may be full! 1:4
• That you don’t sin! 2:1
• That you may know that you have eternal life! 5:

Are you joyful?

3. The recipients!

• Little children! (teknia – born ones – infants)
• Fathers! (pateres – father or parent)
• Young men! (neaniskoe – youth)

Are you a mature Christian?

4. The dangers! (world, flesh and the devil) 2:15-17

• The lust of the flesh
• The lust of the eyes
• The pride of life

Are you being squeezed into the pattern of this world?

5. The lies!

• They denied their own sinfulness 1:5-10
• They denied salvation through the work of Christ 2:1
• They denied authority to the commands of Jesus 2:4
• They denied that you needed to love others 2:9-11
• They denied the unity of the faith 2:19
• They denied that Jesus had come in the flesh 2:22

6. The assurance!

• We know that we know Him! 2:3; 2:5
• We know that it is the last hour! 2:18
• We know we will be like Him! 3:2
• We know that we have eternal life! 3:14
• We know His love! 3:16
• We know that He abides in us! 3:24
• We know how to discern the spirits! 4:1-4
• We know we have God’s Spirit! 4:13
• We know that we love His children! 5:2
• We know He hears our prayers! 5:15
• We know that we are His! 5:19
• We know that He has come! 5:20

Are you secure in your faith?

7. The application!

• Confess your sins! 1:9 (Psalm 32; 51)!
• Love the brethren! 3:16
• Walk in the light! 1:7
• Guard yourself from idolatry! 5:21
  

8 .The victory! 1 John 1:17

• He is righteous!
• He is exalted!
• He is alive!
• He is victorious!
• He is reigning!
