Special Prayer Request
In need of a miracle!

Dear friends,

Some of you are aware of the serious condition of Andrew Prak!  He is the 17 year old son of Daniel and Suzanne Prak who we (Valley) support through OMF in Cambodia.  Below is the email I received from the Prak’s early yesterday morning.

Dear Prayer Partners,

Here is an update on Andrew. First we want to thank you for praying and for all the emails and messages that we've received assuring us of your prayers and love, know that each one is read and appreciated.

Today after we wrote the first email we had some encouraging news. While things are still critical, Andrew's labs are stabilizing along with his vital signs. His blood pressure hasn't been a problem today like it was last night. His kidneys are working now which had been a big concern, he didn't even need dialysis today (had it yesterday). The doctors explained to us that his lack of responsiveness may be do to the swelling of his brain after all the recent difficulties. They are working hard with medications to reduce the swelling to his brain. The hope is that he will respond within the next 24 hours. Daniel and I are able to sit in the room with him now (previously the staff was too busy in there and we sat outside), we are doing all we can to stimulate him: praying, reading, singing, watching TV, telling stories and giving him massages.  Please pray urgently for a miracle, pray that he will give us some response very soon.  We will keep you updated.

Also, it appears that Peter and Michelle will be flying here to Bangkok to be with us, we are very thankful for this.

Love,

Daniel and Suzanne

I haven’t received anything from Daniel and Suzanne in the last 24 hours but did receive an email today saying that his condition has become more serious and that the only hope now is a miracle.  They also have two younger children – Joshua and Sarah who are still in Cambodia with friends.

Yesterday we were reminded that we are to fervently love one another.  Epaphras labored fervently in prayer for the believers at Colossae because He loved them.  We love the Prak’s and so please join us in lifting Andrew up to the Savior.

OMF was founded by pioneer missionary J. Hudson Taylor over 100 years ago.  During the terrible days of the Boxer Rebellion, when missionaries were being captured and killed, he went through such agony of soul that he could not pray.  Writing in his journal, he summarized his spiritual condition this way: “I can’t read.  I can’t think.  I can’t pray.  But I can trust.”  We don’t understand why Grant Bahl at 16 was taken away from his precious family, we don’t understand why Andrew Prak’s life is hanging in the balance in Bangkok, Thailand? But there is one thing we can do – we can still trust in the loving purposes of our heavenly Father.

Mae White went to be with our Lord on August 16 and her celebration/memorial service will be this Thursday at 3:00 pm at Valley.  Please remember the White family as well.

This Sunday we will be examining 1 Peter 2:1-3.  Please take time to pray this passage into your life so that His likeness may be seen in you!

Trusting the Savior,
Glen

August 24 update

"The doctors were encouraging this morning. They preface everything by saying that the situation remains grim, but we know that with God's power our perspective is different. This morning we were told that Andrew's heart continues to become stronger each day, his echocardiogram was better today that yesterday, that means that his heart is recovering from the 'trauma' of the shocks and CPR that he received on Saturday. Today he has displayed more of the spontaneous reflexes, quite a bit of movement in his arms, torso and lower legs/feet. This indicates that the swelling of the brain is reducing. Please pray that it continues to reduce and that Andrew will be restored to complete health and functioning. One doctor assured us this morning that he is also praying and Andrew's neurologist said with a bit of a smile, 'please keep all those people praying!' Thanks so much to all of you who have been praying. Peter is with us now and has been a great blessing both in terms of fellowship but also in practical ways like taking care of us (eating, sleeping)! Michelle will arrive tomorrow at about 11am and then Melissa will arrive early Saturday morning. Josh and Sarah arrived here in Bangkok yesterday from Cambodia, our friend and teammate Charlotte is staying with them at the OMF mission home here in Bangkok. Pray for our faith to remain strong, for us to stimulate Andrew well and provide an encouraging environment for him. Pray for Andrew to wake up and for there to be complete healing with no irreversible brain damage. Most of all pray that God will be glorified as many people are impacted by God's working in our lives."
