Staff
This brief introduction to the pastoral staff of Valley Church tells you a little about who we are.
Jaime Burnett
Jaime is a pastor, the church administrator, and the church treasurer.
Dave Carlsen
Dave is pastor of college ministries.
Darren Johnson
Darren is pastor of student ministries. High school is his main emphasis. In his own words --
I was born in Oklahoma City, Ok in 1972. I grew up in a pastor’s family home and have lived most of my life in California. I met my wife Cheryl in 1991 while we were attending Point Loma Nazarene College. We were married in 1995 and have 4 children Justin, Zachary, Trey, and Kate.
Hobbies & Interests...
I’m a big baseball fan. My favorite team is the Boston Red Sox. My wife and I enjoyed spending a couple of years in the greater Boston area and seeing quite a few games at Fenway Park. I also love to golf, although I’m not very good at it, but there’s something about being on the green grass of a course in beautiful California weather that is appealing to me. I also enjoy camping, hiking, and going to the beach with my family. Trips to San Francisco to ride the cable cars with my family are enjoyable events as well. I like Chocolate Peanut-Butter Ice Cream and can’t stand Sweet Potatoes (now you know more about me than you care to).
Kurt Jones
Kurt is a pastor responsible for the Communication Base.
For the past seven years, Kurt has been one of the preaching pastors at Valley Church in Cupertino, where he also gives leadership to the staff and oversees the world missions ministry. Kurt has been a missionary in the Philippines and has had the privilege of traveling to thirty-five different countries on various missionary teams and projects. He was on the pastoral staff at Los Gatos Christian church for ten years, and at Santa Cruz Bible Church for three and a half years. He has been a youth pastor, college pastor, Adult Education pastor, Missions pastor, and preaching pastor. He received his B.S. from Liberty University in Pastoral Ministry and his M.A. from Biola University's School of Intercultural Studies.
Kurt is a California native and enjoys travel, reading, volleyball, hot coffee, and spending time with his wife and family. Kurt's wife Valorie is an "M.K.", missionary kid, who grew up in the Amazon region of Northern Brazil. Her parents are Wycliffe Bible translators who finished their translation in 1991. Valorie graduated from Biola University (BA and MA), and has taught in both public and private schools. Kurt and Val met at Biola University, were married in 1991, and have four girls, Arienna, born in 1995 and Micayla, Elena, and Kierra all born in 1997.
Dennis Low
Dennis is a pastor responsible for local communication and the Connection Base.
One of my favorite places on this planet is Yosemite Valley. Of course I also enjoy being at Valley Church. But it sure is nice to get out into God's incredible creation with my wife, Beth. Another favorite place is on the tennis courts. You'll often hear me yell, "When I was younger, ... !" Although I'm not as young as I use to be, I still enjoy meeting new people and helping them get connected at Valley Church.
I hope I can help you enjoy being part of our local body of believers:
- to experience the presence of the Lord in your life and in community;
- to experience fellowship with God's people;
- to share this experience in your neighborhood, our community and to the ends of the earth.
