Bloom
VALLEY CHURCH HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRY
bloom-
reaching and equipping students to love God and others
reaching and equipping students to love God and others
Our high school ministry is referred to as “bloom” because we feel this word metaphorically describes God’s vision for high school students. In the same way that a flower waits for the right time to show all that it was created to be, so we believe now is the time for students to go and show others what it really looks to follow God with their lives. In a word we want our students to bloom…
The What:
Our mission in the High School Ministry is to reach and equip students to love God and others .
The What:
Our mission in the High School Ministry is to reach and equip students to love God and others .
1.The central command of Scripture that teaches about what God’s desires are for each person is found in Matthew 22:36-40:
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
2.As High School ministry at Valley Church we have a responsibility to reach and equip others to that calling on everyone’s life:
Matthew 28:19-20:
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Ephesians 4:11-15:
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

The How:
Once again, our mission in the High School Ministry is to reach and equip students to love God and others . We will do this by creating a culture, and encouraging a personal lifestyle, of worship, community, growth, and mission.
WORSHIP —Our main starting point for bloom is our Sunday morning gathering @ 9am in the 500 building. Anyone who is new to the high school ministry at Valley Church is encouraged to start here. At this gathering we worship God in a variety of ways (music, prayer paths & stations, art, etc.), learn relevant messages from the Bible (about relationships, deadly sins, handling emotions, Proverbs, James), build friendships, and have components of relaxed fun (like group crowdbreakers).

COMMUNITY — bloom is also interested building community and enjoying being together. As our society continues to become more relationally fragmented and educationally driven, it is important for students to build strong friendships with each other and enjoy having fun together. To promote this we schedule different events and activities throughout the year for the purpose of spending time with each other (beach trips, Malibu nights, hikes, sporting events, etc.).
GROWTH —A major component in providing the right conditions for a student to bloom into all that God would have them be is our Thursday evening gathering called elements. elements is our primary equipping mechanism in the high school ministry. Here students are involved in small groups, seminars, a special events geared towards intentional discipleship in the way of Jesus. This involves two major ways of equipping. One area is in relation to one’s own personal spiritual growth. This includes spiritual formation issues like the spiritual disciplines, giving up control completely to God, and the Holy Spirit’s ongoing involvement in one’s life. The other area would be living out our mission and how we respond to our world. This would include theology 101 (knowing what you believe), world religions & cults, and learning how to build bridges with non-Christians.
MISSION —The mission component of bloom strategically addresses the mandate that Jesus has placed on us as His flowers to GO and make disciples. To achieve this calling we will create opportunities for individual and group service projects, specific evangelistic outreaching opportunities, mission trips, and missional accountability.
