Music Selection Criteria

As the choral directors meet in the Winter (preferably before Easter) to plan the event, we think back on all our "If only we had a large choir" moments. Thus the primary criterion is to choose pieces which work really well with a large choir. Other questions come up often in the discussions:

  1. Can I use this in my congregation's regular worship services?
  2. Will my singers revolt if it's not in English?
  3. Will my {pastors, elders, congregation} tar and feather me if I choose this?
  4. Is it relatively easy to learn?
  5. Is it within the capabilities of our collective choral pool?
  6. Can we find appropriate instrumentalists?
  7. Can we make a good program from these selections?
  8. Is it good music?

We also need to be sure we can fit it into a program of reasonable length.
